With it’s low aspect ratio and deep profile you’d be hard pushed to find a more stable kite than the U-Turn Helium II, many people have described it as ‘luff-proof’. Of course this combined with it’s easy handling makes it an ideal beginners kite, but that’s not the full story. The Helium II will surprise many with its performance and more experienced flyers won’t find it lacking in pulling power and speed
The Helium II also makes a great value for money depowerable kite, supremely stable and easy to fly, it is easily converted to depower with the easy to fit U-Turn SPS Speed/Power System (Optional)
The build quality is of course up to the usual U-Turn paraglider airworthiness standard, a step up from the traditional kite manufacturers and well ahead of the cheap kites often sold to those new to the sport. All seams are double stitched, critical points are reinforced and the bridle is sewn.
Even the winning kite in Kite & Friends test of beginner kites can be improved.
U-Turn chief designer Ernst Strobl has proved this with the HELIUM II. An optimised profile, lighter material, and very tough Lines from Liros are the ingredients for the second generation of the top beginners kite.
The HELIUM II remains the beginners kite in U-Turns product range, even though the improvements have moved it nearer to the intermediates in performance terms, it still retains the same inherent stability. Whoever flys the HELIUM II knows that this is a kite with lasting fun and performance that you wont grow out of too soon.
The forgiving behavior of the HELIUM II on all criteria was one reason why the HELIUM was voted best kite at the Beginners-Test of Kite & friends magazine. The testers praised the excellent features whether on foot or in the buggy. No matter if the easy start behavior, the behavior at the zenith, steering with and without brakes, reverse start or landing was being tested – the HELIUM received great praise in all handling categories.
The HELIUM II now has a more performance-optimised profile with the same canopy form. Use of a new material, which is 5 grams lighter per square meter, leads to more forward drive with the same stability. The launch handling is also even easier without losing any of the immense good-natured character of the kite. Or in the words of one of our test pilots: "It is practically impossible to make the HELIUM II fall out of the sky"
The HELIUM II is especially suited for inland and offshore gusty winds at the coast. Advanced pilots are able to use the kite in gusty, strong or storm wind conditions the small sizes prove themselves ideal for the task. The HELIUM II can withstand lots of abuse thanks to the high quality manufacturing process. For example, the high quality Liros lines have been tested under the hardest conditions with U-Turn Acro paragliders.
For beginners, the HELIUM II can be used in a large useable wind range. Because of this progress can be achieved quickly, providing the fun and motivation to keep on kiting and to learn the finer details.
The optional Speed/Power-System (SPS) is easily fitted for use with the Speed/Power bar and allows for an even larger useable wind range and control of flying speed.
